4/6/2023 0 Comments Snapmaps![]() I sent out seven different opening lines ranging from a simple conversation opener such as “what’s up! Haven’t talked to you in a while”, to more specific questions regarding their location like “hey bro, are you near Brown’s Crafthouse? I thought I saw you!”. Therefore, I chose participants that I had met before, but nobody that I would call a “close friend”. However, I also knew that only choosing close friends wouldn’t showcase this assignment’s true potential as they know me too well and would figure out it was a prank. I knew if I messaged people who I didn’t know very well the interaction would be extremely awkward, as inquiring about someone’s location is very personal. ![]() Prior to selecting which friends I wanted to use in the experiment, I recounted past interactions I have had with them. I knew this because SnapMaps showcases the users Bitmoji (which is there avatar) when they are doing either of the three things listed. I wanted to see if the ability to constantly see where your friends are would strengthen the bonds of friendship or damage them.īefore contacting any of my friends who I had on Snapchat, I analyzed the entire situation. The experiment that I selected for this project was the “SnapMap Creeper”, the reason I chose this option was because I thought it was not only the most relevant to today’s most popular social media, but I also was interested in challenging the structure and purpose of SnapMaps.
